E-GOVERNANCE IN   DISTRICT OFFICES   

National Informatics Centre

Information plays an important role in the policy making, planning and decision making process in any organization.  This is more so in developing countries where the governments have to plan in advance to achieve regulated economic growth by implementing socio-economic developmental programmes.

Development process needs a sophisticated information flow from the lowest level of administration to the highest national decision making level.  Government of India set up National Informatics Centre (NIC) to promote informatics culture in the Government Departments and develop computer based Management Information System for decision support at various levels.  In order to avail the opportunities offered by the informatics technology to improve and accelerate the planning process and implementation of socio-economic programmes for all round developmental growth of the nation.  National Informatics Centre (NIC) has  set up a nation-wide satellite based Computer-Communication Network (NICNET) in close co-operation with State Governments as well as District Administration.   NICNET has been planned to facilitate rationalization of the information exchange between the Districts and the States and then to the Centre.  As a result, Governments both at centre as well as state will be in a position to have interactive information-based infrastructure for decision support at all levels.   

ICNET uses satellite communication for information exchange among districts, states and regional centres in the country.

- Very strong Intra Net established in the district connecting all MRO and MVTC / RDO / Collectorate and NIC office through two FTP Servers and two web Servers operationalized for 24 hours. All Mandal level MRO and MVTC’s Offices are depending on NIC FTP Servers for exchange of information / transmission  of data periodically from mandal offices to NIC / collectorate or mandal to mandal.

- Self Help Groups (Women) database is created with three lakhs Beneficiaries details which is accessible through web server on Intra Net.  Mandal Velugu Training Centers(MVTC) are entry data of Self Help Groups at their respective mandal using offline S/w of NIC,Kurnool  and uploading to FTP server.The  FTP server is updating the data on local online web server at regular interval.

- Largest LAN with one hundred and twenty nodes is established in the collectorate and connected all the government departments located in collector comlex. LAN is set up with 16 nodes in each of the  three divisional offices of Kurnool district.
